UoS Description

This unit will critically introduce particpants to the concept of the native speaker. We will start by challenging the concept of a "native speaker" and move on to discuss the new discourse that moves beyond the concept of "nativeness". After reading the current literature on this issue, we will design and conduct a short research project to investigate the key issues identified. This active engagement will empower particpants and prepare them to face current challenges in the field of applied linguistics.
